The journey of Ricky Atkinson

From the boxing ring and television screens to published author, motivational speaker, and founder of United Spirits Pottery Studio, Ricky Atkinson has dedicated his life to turning adversity into empowerment. Over 72 years of lived experience, struggle, and resilience now fuel a community mission to guide and inspire youth through the grounding art of ceramics.

Turning struggle into purpose

Ricky Atkinson’s path is anything but ordinary. As a former professional boxer, award-winning television host and producer, and published author, Ricky has walked through immense personal challenges. His greatest triumph has been transforming negative life decisions into positive, enduring goals. Today, he channels the lessons of his life into United Spirits Pottery Studio, providing a safe, creative haven where anyone can discover their inner strength.

Empowering youth through ceramic art

Returning directly to his former neighbourhood, Ricky founded the studio with a heartfelt mission: to uplift marginalized youth by teaching them the therapeutic discipline of pottery. By mastering clay, young people learn patience, focus, and self-worth. If you would like to support these inspiring programs, donations can be made directly to potterywithcathy@gmail.com, or through Kiley Flemming, program director at the Alexandra Park Community Centre, for an official charitable tax receipt.

Building a unified community collective

With more than seven decades of hard-won wisdom, Ricky utilizes creative expression to forge a united, positive collective. United Spirits Pottery Studio is a welcoming sanctuary for neighbours of all walks of life—offering accessible drop-in sessions, paint nights, and community evenings designed to connect people and help our youth become the best they can possibly be.

“Anyone can turn their negative life decisions into positive goals that uplift others to achieve true happiness.”
